VAB (Vertical Adhesion Band) Oil Skimmer
The V.A.B. FOXTAIL OIL SKIMMER was developed and tested at the Norwegian Pollution Controll Authority base in Horten, Norway.
Since 1984 several units have been in service in the North sea on board specialized oil recovery vessels operated by the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority. |

Not only is the V.A.B FOXTAIL OIL SKIMMER Capable of recovering large quantities of oil, but it performs equally well also in rough sea. This can be seen from the illustrations on the following pages
Features and technical spesification
The FOXTAIL V.A.B.Oil skimmer was developed and tested at the Norwegian Pollution Controll Authority base in Horten, Norway. Under the Norwegian Pollution Controll Authority.
The systen is holding a «Patent Pending».
It started in 1984 with 5 units that have been in operating in the North Sea by the Norwegian Pollution Controll Authority (NPCA) on board their specialazed coastal oil recowery wessels.
Many units have been ordered since ranging from the smalest model V.A.B 2-6 with 9m3/hr capasity to the largest model V.A.B 8-14 with 80 m3/hr capasity.
The Foxtail Skimmers are functioning extremely well and ensure high performance oil collection.

Operating principle
Heavy and light oils are collected from the wather surface by the FOXTAIL endless high performance adhesion band (mops).
These fibrillared polypropylne bands collect(adhere) oil when moving out of the FOXTAIL inside the machine by special rollers.

Oil collection in the V.A.B. is then pumped onboard/ashore into the collection tank.
The V.A.B. Oil skimmers are of light weight and are hanging in a single wire(crane or other fixture).
From 1995 the 3 larger models are provided with bumpers for motor protection.

Main features
The V.A.B oil skimmerswith the FOXTAIL adhesion/absorption bands offer the user:
- High capacity oil recovery up to 80 m3/hr
- Model V.A.B 2-6 - 8m/hr = 35 gal/min
- V.A.B 8-14 - 80m/hr = 352 gal/min
- Uanafected by waves
- Portable and requires only a single wire suspension
Operates well among floating objects
- Not sensitive to oil viscocity of oil
The VAB oil skimmer with its foxtails works well in 4 m waves.
